Knowing the differences between layers

Photoshop layers are actually very much like the different parts of a newspaper or magazine page. Each layer is a section of the page, and each layer’s content is represented by a type of ink. Each layer has a color and an alpha value (transparency), and the layers are arranged one on top of the other. Figure 7-1 provides an example of a Photoshop Layers palette with a document created in Adobe Photoshop CS5.0.

**Figure 7-1:** Photoshop provides many ways to organize layers.

When you open the Photoshop CS5 document from the previous example, you may notice that as shown in Figure 7-1, although the layers are visible, they aren’t selected. You can, however, select individual layers.

Photoshop Layers palette (Figure 7-2) enables you to choose layers that contain the specific content. You can mix and match these layers, and you can edit them all at once by using the handy layer mask feature.

When you place layers in a design, you create something that looks like a multipage document. For example, you can place text in one layer, illustration in another, an image in another, and a collection of backgrounds, grids, and shapes in yet another.

**Figure 7-2:** Photoshop provides a variety of ways to organize layers.

Understanding Layer Masks

A layer mask is a way to restrict the visibility of content in a specific layer only to some areas. For example, you may select an area of a photo you’ve had taken and decide that you want that area completely visible, but all surrounding areas to be masked.

You can determine what parts of the layer are visible and what are hidden by using a layer mask. You use the blend mode function of a layer mask to determine the opacity of the mask. The Blend Modes palette enables you to choose from at least a dozen different ways to blend or fade the color and transparency of the layer mask with that of the original (unmasked) layer.

A layer mask is a powerful tool that enables you to manipulate a single layer without affecting the layers below it.

If a layer is active — that is, if

The program uses the same file format as traditional Photoshop, it has a similar user interface, and it uses many of the same actions.

We’ve made an epic video tutorial covering everything you need to know about Photoshop Elements.

We’re going to cover all the ways you can save and export your images: saving to Photoshop, File formats and in-built actions.

You can also save images to USB sticks, CD/DVDs or upload to Photoshop.com.

Read on to see how to do that.

Step 1. Create a new file in Photoshop

Go to File > New.

You should see the New file dialog box.

Depending on your settings, either choose an image from your computer, or one from your memory card.

When you’re happy with the image, you can then change the file format.

Either save it as a Photoshop file, or just export it for use with other programs.

Next read our guide to save files from Photoshop Elements to digital cameras.

In the new file window, you can see the file name and the file type.

You can choose from the following file types:

If you save as a Photoshop file, it’s great because you can open them with Photoshop, but you can also open it in any other program that supports the PSD file format.

For example, if you have a small business that wants to use your images, they can open them in their graphic design program and save them as a PSD. This keeps their file size to a minimum.

If you save as a PNG, you’re done.

Read on to see how to open and save files to Photoshop.com.

Step 2. How to resize your images

Open up a new file in Photoshop Elements, or, if you have one already open, go to File > Open.

Step 3. Click File > Save As.

Genymotion : Can’t connect to GPS

I’m trying Genymotion (Android emulator) on Debian Jessie.
I can’t connect my emulator to the Internet. So I can’t use GPS, because my emulator won’t use my GPS. I’m trying to solve it with this article :

I have this error message:
ConnectivityService: Service name provider getaddrinfo: etnob.fr
Couldn’t obtain location from network provider etnob.fr

Can you help me?

When accessing Android apps on your simulator from the web browser, try the following:

Open the Genymotion app.
Tap on the icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
Select Settings.
Scroll down to Network and look for the line that shows Info: Status connected.
Tap on the line that says Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Internet. You can also access this via the drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the screen.

If you can’t find the line with the drop-down menu, try tapping on Network (as shown below). If that doesn’t work, tap on Settings (as shown below). If that doesn’t work, see the manual entry from Google.

The majority of the Apurimac came from destruction of the Andean department highlands. This occurred in 1885–1886, at the same time as extensive mineral exploitation and deforestation of the Oruro department (central Bolivia).

The maximum length of an Apurimac is.

Diameters of Apurimac

The Apurimac is long and wide, with its maximum draft estimated at. The river is wide at the source, and can be wide at the time of maximum discharge. The variation in the width is due to the expansive mountain ranges that surround the Apurimac basin. At the outlet, the Apurimac becomes the Pongo de Mainique, which empties into the Pongo de Manseriche. The Pongo de

What’s the difference between primitive types and value types?

Isn’t a value type exactly the same as a primitive type? What is the actual difference?

A type variable is like a variable that changes its meaning, like a string. Consider:
var foo = “foo”;
var bar = “bar”;

Now foo means “the string value of ‘foo'”. In other words, it’s the data “foo”. Now, if we tried to assign “blarg” to foo, it would be an error:
foo = “blarg”;
// Error: string is not assignable to string

But that’s not the same as a string (or string literal, “blarg”). foo would just be an object:
foo.ToString() // “foo”

Here a value type becomes its own kind of data-type. In this case, a string is its own kind of object.
But just because you can define the type of a value type doesn’t mean you can actually create objects out of those values. In fact, no primitive types are actually “values” in C#. For example, here’s a value type:
struct Point
public int X, Y;
public Point(int x, int y) { X = x; Y = y; }

The Point object is itself a value, but it’s not a primitive type. It’s actually a reference type. The X and Y fields, which are public read/write fields, are the actual values of the x and y fields. This works for value types in just about every programming language I’m aware of.

From MSDN,

By default, a value type is passed as a single object by reference to another function or a method. You can also pass value types as value types. Because value types are passed as values, you can copy them using the Copy constructors that copy their values.

Primitive types can be passed as values.

Value types:

Namely, “value types” are variable types, the type of which is fixed,
whereas, “reference types” can change to new instances of the
stored class.

What is meant is that a value type can take in only a subset of the
features that a reference type can
