It’s been a long time coming, but finally comes a game that I can finally sing its praises. This is a fantastic game. It’s old-school action RPG at it’s finest. The combat feels really good, the gameplay is engaging, and the character progression isn’t a chore. The game boasts a myriad of play styles, including melee, ranged, magic and support, and everything is done in a seamless battle system. The early game is fairly easy, yet provides enough challenge to keep you playing. The story is simple yet rich, and brings a nice change to an otherwise common fantasy tale.

As a huge fan of old-school JRPGs, I’ve been wanting to try an action RPG for a long time. I decided to pick this up, partly due to the fact that it was on sale for $9.99, and partly because it was one of the few franchises that made me feel a sense of loss when the series went away. I had hope that this would be the game that brought this franchise back to life, and it is.

The biggest highlight of this game for me, is probably the music and battle system. The music is absolutely fantastic! I haven’t been a huge fan of video game music in the past, but this collection of tracks fits the game so perfectly. I could not find a single track that was bad. I also cannot speak highly enough of the battle system. The battles are fast and furious, providing a sense of urgency that the gameplay and story desperately lacked. It’s simple, but it feels intuitive. The combos feel responsive, the time necessary to perform each skill is appropriate, and the execution of that skill when you’re fighting feels great.

A highlight of this game for me was the flexible multiplayer aspect. You can play with anyone in the world, however, you can only see them in battle. You have an option to turn a blind eye on what your partner is doing, but you do not see what they are seeing. This allows you to control the combat in your own unique way. You can jump in and out of the fight, stop running, and interact with your partner via keyboard and mouse. There’
